Feel Amazing This Summer: Part 1

Feel Amazing This Summer: Part 1

Summer is a wonderful time to get together with friends. The sun is shining, and there's no shortage of opportunities to hit a patio and grab a drink or head for an afternoon ice cream or frapp. So much fun right!? Yes, but If you're someone who's feeling concerned about body image or working at keeping calories in check, all of these social events can start to get stressful.

So how do you stay healthy and balanced without missing out on any of that summer fun!? (YES, it can be done.) In my next few posts, I'll be highlighting three of my favourite tips and how to make them happen. Stay tuned for part 2 and 3 coming up in my next posts!

Tip 1. Moderation is Key

Old news? .. yes, but it's SO SO true!

  • Don't overly restrict food choices
    • Yes, food should be something that provides us with the right amount of nutrients but it's also about taste, texture, and enjoyment.
    • In fact, if you are overly restrictive with your diet or deprive yourself of the foods you truly enjoy, it can eventually lead to binges or overeating. So make sure you have balance! It's important to feed your soul as well as your body :)

      How do you do this?
Summer nutrition
  • Focus on the Big Picture
    • Worrying about the details of every decision you make about food can get stressful, PLUS wouldn't life be a little less enjoyable if you felt guilty when you decided to indulge in an ice cream? Here's the thing. Depriving yourself completely or making yourself feel overly guilty when you do choose to indulge usually leads to overindulgence or giving up on the healthy choices all together.
      • Are you eating wholesome, balanced meals and snacks at least 80% of the time? Are you including a variety of colourful fruits and veggies?
      • Aiming for perfection isn't realistic or helpful. No one makes healthy choices 100% of the time! Sticking with the 80/20 (or 90/10) rule, and letting yourself truly enjoy those summertime treats when you do chose to have them is one of the keys to success!
      • So yes, pour yourself that glass of Rose, or dig into that campfire s'more. Just keep it to 10-20%  and make sure you actually truly ENJOY! If not, you're wasting those extra calories.  A healthy diet does not mean perfection... being real with yourself is important.
